One of the most modern sailing academies of the country is located at the beach of Schinias. “Sailing Academy” is the result of the vision of two accomplished Greek sailing instructors George Giavouroglou and George Kefallonitis, and is home of the sailing sports of the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011.
The two instructors, having taken advantage of their travels to many places all around the world, collecting images, ideas and experience of sports venues and events, they have established a model trading centre or children, adults, beginners and advanced. They have led many of their child - athletes to achieve recognition in World, European, and Greek championships in the categories of optimist, laser, 4.20 and 4.70, while as the instructors of Special Olympics they have won significant awards, with more recent, the conquest of Gold and Silver medals in the Special Olympics, held in Shanghai in 2007.
The premises of the Academy are all accessible to people with disabilities, and since April, a special dock platform has been placed, that facilitates access for athletes on board.
The Sailing Academy complex, in addition to the athletic premises, features a beach-bar, a playground, a mini football court, a mini basketball court, free storage for the vessels and the surfboards of its members, a pool-bar and a restaurant, open all year. Also, in collaboration with the Marathon Horizons and other organizations, it coordinates and hosts various cultural events.
