Marathon Run Museum: Treasures and Memories
3.100 exhibits that record the history of Marathon Run from 1896 up to today. A unique athletic collection that couldn't be found elsewhere but at the birthplace of the marathon race.
The Marathon Run Museum constitutes a pole of attraction for the hundreds of the city visitors, who are being tour guided at the “Olympic Marathon” exhibition. This exhibition is a donation of the Olympic Museum of Lausanne to the Municipality of Marathon.
The exhibition is divided in two different partitions. In the first building, a travel in the Olympic Marathon's history is being held (through a valuable collection of rare items), while in the second building, the World Marathon Run movement is recorded, through thematic partitions, dedicated to the marathons, carried out in every corner of the planet, to Olympic champions, to the appearance of women participating in the marathons, even to the equipment of the marathon runners.
In the exhibition sites, one can admire things like: the red cap of Greek Olympic champion of 1896, Spiros Louis, or the medal of the Washington DC marathon, that was recently offered to the Museum by the United States President, Mr Barak Obama.
The visitor can also admire the personal heirlooms of the legendary marathon runner Stelios Kiriakides, who has left his trace in history for the unique triumph in the Boston marathon of 1946, and also of the freedom fighter Grigoris Lambrakis.INFO: Marathon Run Museum, Marathonos Ave. & 25th of March str., Marathon.
